What is Alien?
A plugin for Grasshopper in Rhino 8. You describe a component in plain English and it writes the script behind it, runs it, and fixes its own errors.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You write a sentence and never have to open the script. If you do code, the file is right there to read and edit.
What if it gets it wrong?
If the code fails, it reads the error and tries again. If it runs but isn't what you meant, say so and it edits that component.
What does it cost?
Everything that runs on your machine is free: bring your own API key or a local model. Pro and Max add cloud models, version control, CAD co-op and private cloud libraries. Every request shows its cost in dollars, not credits.
Where is my work kept?
On your own machine, in your own folder. On Pro or Max, it can also live in a private library hosted in the cloud, shared with your team.
Can I share what I make?
Yes. Publish components to the public library for anyone to use and build on. It needs a free Alien account.
Where does the site map work?
Victoria, Australia, for now. It is a starting point for design, not a Planning Property Report, and building heights are estimates.
